How To Drive Safely Near A Public Bus

Public transportation certainly has scores of positives associated with it. For one, there is a lot less congestion on the road when scores of people are riding on a bus. The amount of emissions delivered into the air is going to tremendously decrease as well. Unfortunately, for those who are driving in their car, a public bus presents a few hazards. Anyone who wants to cut down on the chance of being involved in a bad accident is best advised to follow a few tips on driving safely near a bus.

Never, Ever Try to Pass a Bus When Its Picking Up and Dropping Off Passengers

Nothing embodies more safe driving common sense than the notion you should not make an ill-advised pass when a bus has come to a stop and is letting passengers on and off. Honestly, even if you do have the legal right to pass the bus, you may wish to exercise an option not to do so. Getting to your destination five minutes later is not all that big of a deal. Getting into a terrible accident is definitely something you are going to regret.

Be Wary of Wide Turns

Buses make wide turns. Actually, this is commonly the case with virtually any large vehicles. The trouble is many car drivers end up following way too close to a bus. As a result, when the bus turns, a very narrow near miss may occur. Well, this is what will occur if you are lucky. The danger exists that the wide turn combined with a car following too closely leads to an accident. Take this as a warning. Do not follow a bus too closely.

Buses Take Longer to Stop

Take this as another reason why you should never follow too closely to a bus in motion. The amount of time it takes for a vehicle as huge as a public transportation bus is going to be a lot longer than a lightweight compact car. If the bus has to make an emergency stop to avoid an accident, you are going to be the one who causes the accident because you crashed into the bus. Tailgating does come with consequences. Actually, you do not even have to be tailgating to cause an accident. If you are not giving your own vehicle a decent amount of braking distance, you could be setting the stage for an accident.

Watch for Any Emergency Signals

A bus could have an emergency distress siren and light affixed to its roof. If this light and siren go off, then there could be a medical emergency on the bus. If the flashing lights go off and there is no siren, a criminal scenario could be playing out inside the bus. Regardless of what is the root of the emergency, you have to be very careful as you approach the bus since you do not know what might occur.

The best advice that could be given here is to approach a bus with caution under all circumstances.

How To Keep Your Child From Being Injured By A Car Backing Up In The Driveway

Driveways can be dangerous places for children. Finding ways for them to be able to play safely outside without unduly risking their lives is part of the challenge that parents face. While it is easy to keep children safe by locking them inside, children may not develop the way they would like to if they are not allowed to play outside. A particularly risky area is cars backing up in driveways and the risk that children can be hit as a result. This article will provide some recommended ways to reduce the risks that children are hit when cars reverse in driveways.

The first step to take is to talk to children about the risks about playing in driveways and on streets. Younger children will likely not understand but will develop more of an understanding as time goes on. It is a good idea for parents to start talking to children at a young age as repetition builds into learning. Older children will likely understand the importance of staying out of the street while a car is active in the driveway. If they still don’t listen the way you would like, then bring your children into the car with you when you back up and only let them out after the process is completed. Children will likely not be happy with this inconvenient step and will be more likely to comply with your orders going forward. While this may be inconvenient to you as well, safety for your children really is of primary importance for all involved.

Parents should also take some time to perform basic safety procedures at all times. Before reversing look behind your car and be sure the area is clear. Be aware of where your children are at all moments and try to have them in the house when you are planning on reversing. Before getting into your car walk around the vehicle and look below the trunk to make sure that nobody is behind the vehicle. These simple steps will take only a few minutes of time and will likely reduce significantly the chances that a child can be hit by a reversing vehicle.

Consider upgrading the technology in your vehicle to improve safety. Many new cars have backup cameras and monitors installed into them which can provide a good view for parents who are reversing in a driveway. Parents can simply look into the monitor to see if there are any children behind the car. This new technology is useful and provides added safety for children and parents and should be installed into vehicles if financially feasible to do so.

Reversing in a car in a driveway is a risky proposition for a parent particularly with young children around. To reduce the risk that one of these children are injured, parents should talk to children about proper safety procedures and the importance of staying away from a reversing vehicle, should perform basic safety processes such as being aware of where their children are and of their surroundings, and should consider purchasing new technology improvements such as backup monitors to reduce the chance that a child is injured.

How To Make You Car Safer For Night Driving

Driving at night can be more challenging than driving during daylight hours because not only is it more difficult for drivers to see, it is also more difficult for other drivers to see you. The National Safety Council reports that traffic accident deaths are three times more likely to occur during nighttime hours. But there are steps you can take to make your car safer for night driving.

If you find that your job requires you to do more than your share of driving at night, take the time to prepare your vehicle. This means ensuring that the headlights and tail lights are clean and in good working order. Clean the interiors and exteriors of all windows, including the windshield to eliminate any distortion while driving after dark. Make certain that your windshield wipers are in good condition in the event a sudden downpour occurs and you need to use them to help increase your visibility.

Make sure that your headlights are properly aligned to see objects clearly in the roadway ahead of you. Improperly aligned headlights can cause dangerous distortions leading to accidents as well as other vehicles not able to see your vehicle clearly. Turn on your headlights at least one hour before driving at dusk and keep them on for at least one hour after dawn in order to make your vehicle more visible on the road.

Fatigue is one of the major problems most drivers face when driving at night, so make every effort possible to be well rested before getting behind the wheel of your car. In addition, avoid drinking any alcoholic beverages when driving at night, as doing this can severely slow down your reaction time while on the road. If you must drink at night, then appoint a designated driver to drive your vehicle rather than getting behind the wheel yourself.

It’s a good idea to not smoke when behind the wheel at night because the build-up of smoke and carbon monoxide in the cabin of your vehicle restricts your vision. Always keep a safe distance from the car ahead of you while driving at night and it’s a good idea to reduce your normal speed by a few miles in order to be able to stop quickly if necessary.

It can prove tiresome to your eyes to constantly see oncoming headlights, so focus your vision on the edge of the right side of the road you are travelling. Be especially alert when driving on hairpin turns or on hills so you will notice oncoming headlights as quickly as possible. If you notice even one deer near the side of the road, immediately reduce your speed because others in the herd may likely be searching for a place to cross the road.

If you experience mechanical trouble while driving, safely pull off onto the shoulder of the road, contact emergency assistance, and keep your hazard lights on. If your vision seems worse when driving at night, make an appointment with your eye doctor.

How To Get Around Using Sat Nav

With the world of new technology, maps are no longer put on paper. They are pre loaded into a piece of hardware that you can either carry around or buy as an extra added feature in your car. Don’t know how to use a Satellite navigational system? Here are a few tricks and tips to get your started.

Getting started with your Sat-Navi system

You will need a car so that your satellite navigational system can help you travel from point A to point B. You will also need a satellite navigational system that is portable. The first thing you will want to do is position your sat-navi in a place where it can easily be accessed by you. It should be placed in an area that will allow you to view the screen without having to take your eyes off the road. Never place it in front of you, place it more like in a peripheral vision location.

Before you begin driving, turn your sat-navi on so that it can find your current position. Your sat-navi has to find satellites, which means that you need to have a clear line of sight to the sky, and you also need to be stationary. Avoid trying to use your sat-navi in a car park, or a garage because it will delay your journey.

Once your sat-navi has found your location, you can now put in your destination. Most sat-navi systems have preloaded maps that can be searched by road name, postcode, and name of place. Make sure that you enter accurate information and that you do so before you actually start your trip.

When your sat-navi has put together a route for you, you can then begin your trip. It will display your current location with an arrow pointing in the direction you need to start out on. As you drive your car, the arrow moves with you. Your sat navi will inform you as you drive, when your next turn is coming up, how long it will take you to get there, the road name, as well as how many miles it will take you to get there. All of this will be explained to you in a voice prompt. This voice prompt is active so that you can focus your attention on the road, and less on reading a map.

The great thing about a sat-navi is that if you make a wrong turn, you don’t have to worry. Your sat-navi will recalculate your route and get you back to where you need to be. You don’t have to re enter information and you don’t have to retrace your steps.

It is important to know that even though you are using a satellite map, that it is not infallible. You must be able to think on your own, and understand when something has gone wrong with your journey. If you are prompted to make dangerous maneuvers, then more than likely something is going haywire with your sat-navi system. Always keep an extra road map in your car just in case, and be prepared to use it if your sat-navi doesn’t operate properly.

Once you have reached your final destination, you might want to put your sat-navi away. These pieces of electronics are high risks when it comes to theft.

Sat navi systems can be the perfect asset when it comes to traveling to new areas. It can get you exactly where you need to be without the worry of getting lost. There are many different sat -navi systems available. Choosing one should be based on your needs and expectations.

How To Lease A Car

Leasing is a way for a person to own a car without having to go into debt. It also allows for a person to drive a new car, and it means that one does not have to worry about major repairs as the car gets older. The process of leasing a car involves picking out a car one can afford, and then looking into a couple of things that are involved in the car leasing contract.

Picking out the car

The first part of leasing a car is picking out the car that is right for you. The car should be something that you like, that is able to offer you what you need, and most importantly it should be something you can afford. Spending time going over a budget in order to determine things like if one can afford all of the things associated with leasing and having a car is critical before taking any steps towards leasing a car.

Planning for depreciation

A lease will make one pay what is pretty much a rental fee for having the car, and it will also require one to pay for the amount that the car depreciates in value. As a result the overall cost of a lease depends on the way that cars tend to depreciate. A car will depreciate a large amount over the first couple of years, and then the depreciate process will slowly slow down. This allows for one to get a slightly better deal by leasing a car for something like four years rather than two. This does mean that a person will be stuck with the car, which can put off the process of eventually owning one.

Difference between leases

The vast majority of leases are what are called closed leases. This means that the amount the car will depreciate is decided before the car is leased. This allows for one to drive the car with much more impunity, and it allows for one to turn in a car that may have things like dents on it. There is also what is called closed leases. This kind of lease will require a person to pay the amount that the car depreciates based on the end condition of the car. An open lease generally gets better terms up front, but there is significant risk that one could pay more in the long run.

Sticking to the schedule

A lot of leases will have what is called a schedule, which are the terms that one needs to follow while owning the car. A schedule will require one to only drive the car a certain amount, and so one needs to pick a schedule that will offer them plenty of miles. However, purchasing too many miles will result in simply wasting one’s money. A schedule will also involve things like having the car insured in a particular manner, and having it receive certain kinds of repair and maintenance work on a regular basis.

How To Negotiate With A Car Salesman

Whether young or old, there comes a time when you will need to purchase a car. If you’re just starting out, chances are your vehicle will not be top of the line. In fact, you’re probably going to go with a used vehicle. Before making a purchase you need to do your homework. Here lies the key to negotiating the best deal with a car salesperson.

Know Your Stuff
For one, you need to know your stuff. You need to pull your credit score on your own so you know what you are working with before the dealer does. Know your budget and stick to it. Look up prospective cars and dealerships before you go into the physical location. Once you have located a few cars, be sure to do your research on them. Look up the Carfax. See what damage, if any has occurred to the vehicle, and note millage on the vehicle. Be sure to look up the cars value as well. Note what similar cars have sold for, and the dealer price vs, the value of the car. This is important if you want the best deal.

Take A Man
If you’re a female, it is best to take a male with you. This male should be in his late 20’s to mid 30’s at minimum. As a woman, a male car salesman may try to get over on you with his sales tactics, that is not to mean you can’t take him on yourself.

Knowing How To Negotiate
When stepping into the dealership always project confidence and appreciation for the negotiation process. Confidence comes from knowing your stuff as previously discussed. They can not trick you when it comes to the vehicle if you’ve done your research beforehand.

Dont Show Emotion
Never express your emotional attachment to a vehicle. The dealer is more likely to give you a better deal if he or she knows that you could walk away from the deal at any moment. You dont want to show a commitment to obtaining a particular vehicle, or a vehicle within a given time period either. Likewise don’t reveal your bottom line. Let the dealer know you are interested in the total vehicle price. Never reveal that you want to make payments on the vehicle, as they will tailor cost to this monthly payment value.

The Dealer Goes First
In the negotiation process it is your job to hold onto all your cards until the dealer reveals his or hers first. Let them tell you the deal they have in mind, without revealing your bottom line. Be patient in the process and never get off your game, even if the manager of the dealership gets involved. They are the top salesman in the game, but if they resort to delay tactics as a means to get you to agree to their terms, its time to take all your cards off the table and walk.

Stick To Your Guns
If the dealer rejects your offer, stick to your guns. They won’t go hungry if they don’t get the number they want out of you, so don’t feel pressured to accept the first offer they make. If they don’t work with you to reach a number you’re comfortable, walk away. When they offer you the vehicle you want, at the price you want, you have accomplished your goal.

How To Read A Four Square Form

Some car dealerships and salespeople use a special four square form in order to determine car pricing and financing for people look to buy a vehicle. This form has become infamous because it can easily be used to manipulate numbers during negotiations. The form can be used to lower monthly payments while increasing what customers will actually pay for a vehicle. You need to know the four variables that are used in order to read a four square form.

Transaction Price

One of the squares on the form lists the total transaction price for the sale of the vehicle. The transaction price is basically how much money the entire transaction will cost when accounting for all financial factors. This includes the cost of the vehicle, the financing rate, discounts and down payments. You want to pay special attention to the transaction price when negotiating with a car dealership. If the transaction price goes up, then you are going to be paying more regardless of what other numbers the salesperson is throwing at you. Transaction price is the best way to gauge what is happening with a sale.

Trade-In Amount or Down Payment Amount

This square lists the amount of money that is going to be deducted from the price of the car right away. If you are trading in your old car, then this square is going to hold the trade-in amount for that vehicle. This square will also list any down payment amount that you must pay. This square could actually be zero if you are taking advantage of a no down payment promotion. This square is important because it can affect the monthly payment amount and even the transaction price.

Financing Rate

The financing rate is how much you are going to pay in interest on any financing you secure through the dealership. It can also include the term of the financing. This square is very important because it can hide costs. The financing rate needs to be applied to the life of the loan across many years. A lower rate with a longer term does not always mean that you are saving money. Dealerships use this square in order to affect other numbers such as the monthly payment amount and the total transaction price. This square is not relevant if you arrive at the dealership with your own financing from an outside lender.

Monthly Payment Amount

The final square is the monthly payment amount. This square shows the cash amount that you need to pay every month in order to buy the car and pay off the loan. This square combines the other squares in order to arrive at a figure. You should never rely on this square alone when negotiating with a salesperson. A dealership could easily change financing rates and other figures in order to give you a lower monthly payment amount. The reality, however, will be a higher overall transaction price. This means you will pay more for the car over time. The monthly payment amount needs to be considered along with all the other squares on this form.

Automatic gear shift handle

Learn How To Drive Stick Shift

Modern drivers very often never have to drive a stick shift and may never have any reason to learn how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. A driver with no experience or training on manual transmissions may have trouble just being able to get a vehicle moving. The most basic difference between manual and automatic transmissions and manual transmissions isn’t the obvious need to operate the clutch and the gearshift, but rather the lack of a Park/start gear.

The transmission must be in a neutral gear (no power being transmitted from the engine to the wheels or from the wheels to the engine) in order to start the engine. Both manual and automatic transmissions have a built in switch which only allows the engine to start in neutral. However, these switches can fail to opreate correctly. Drivers must always be certain to place the car in a neutral gear when stopping the engine or starting it.

When a vehicle is in a neutral gear it can be moved by just pushing the vehicle. If it is parked on even a slight incline the vehicle will tend to roll downhill. Because of this, a vehicle with a stick-shift transmission needs to be parked with the parking or hand brake engaged. Do not use an engaged gear instead of the brake.

A driver with no experience operating a stick shift is very unlikely to start with parking a running vehicle. The beginning step should be checking to be certain the vehicle was stopped correctly. That means the parking brake should be engaged and the gear in neutral. Check the brake before checking the shift lever to be certain that the transmission is in neutral. This can be done by shaking the shift lever. If it is not in neutral, the lever resists moving.

Once the driver has ascertained that the brake is on and the transmission is in neutral, the next step is to start the engine. Once the engine has started and is idling smoothly, depress the clutch and shift into first gear. Slowly engage the clutch and release the brake once the clutch begins to engage. This may take some practice. Smoothly accelerate until the engine has reached a maximum safe r.p.m. range. This may be determined by sound, a tachometer reading, a vacuum gauge reading, or an indicator light.

Shift to a higher range by depressing the clutch while backing off the accelerator pedal and shifting to the next gear. Smoothly re-engage the clutch while adjusting the accelerator pedal to maintain speed or continue to accelerate. When you reach the desired speed you should be operating the engine at a comfortable r.p.m. This may not be in the top gear range, depending on the type of vehicle and transmission. If your car has a maximum operating speed of 200 mph you will probably not be in the top gear range at 60 mph. Deceleration is the oposite of acceleration. Remember to finish in neutral with the parking brake set.
